Summary

NVIDIA reported Q2 FY2027 revenue of $96.2 billion, up 106% year over year and 18% sequentially, with net income of $59.7 billion and a 75.0% gross margin, driven by Blackwell Ultra data center demand. The company sharply expanded its balance-sheet commitments: supply commitments rose to $279 billion, it issued $25 billion of debt, and in August 2026 it signed guarantees capped at $105 billion for an OpenAI-related data center buildout. It also raised its dividend to $0.25 per quarter and added $80 billion to its buyback authorization, while China data center sales stay effectively blocked.

Key changes

  1. 1.Supply and capacity commitments jumped from $119 billion last quarter to $279 billion, within total commitments of $366 billion.
  2. 2.In August 2026 NVIDIA entered guarantees capped at $105 billion for SB Energy leases (about 4.25 GW) on behalf of an OpenAI affiliate, taking maximum gross guarantee exposure to $108.5 billion from $3.5 billion.
  3. 3.Issued $25.0 billion of senior notes in June 2026, lifting long-term debt to $32.4 billion from $7.5 billion.
  4. 4.Quarterly dividend raised from $0.01 to $0.25 per share, and the board added $80.0 billion of repurchase authorization, leaving $99.3 billion; $19.7 billion of stock was repurchased in the quarter.
  5. 5.Introduced a new AI cloud partner model with $36 billion of cloud service commitments, and signed MOUs aimed at mobilizing more than $500 billion of third-party capital for AI infrastructure.
  6. 6.Equity investments reached $99 billion with $25 billion more committed; non-marketable securities rose to $51.2 billion from $22.3 billion, and first-half equity gains of $23.7 billion drove other income to $24.1 billion.

Risks

  1. 1.Commitments, guarantees and AI cloud arrangements are newly emphasized risk: NVIDIA may be unable to cut $366 billion of commitments if demand falls, must buy unsold AI cloud capacity, and could assume leases or pay under the $105 billion SB Energy/OpenAI guarantees if OpenAI defaults, with only partial reimbursement.
  2. 2.Customer and counterparty concentration and financing exposure: one direct customer was 16% of Q2 revenue, five customers made up 70% of receivables, and receivables grew to $63.1 billion on extended payment terms of up to one year.
  3. 3.Export controls and China: NVIDIA is effectively foreclosed from the China data center market, took a $0.4 billion H200 charge, and faces a 25% tariff on licensed H200 shipments that it cannot pass on; Chinese regulators' preliminary finding on the Mellanox commitments could bring penalties.
  4. 4.Supply constraints and production complexity could cause delays, inventory provisions, yield issues and warranty costs; Q2 inventory provisions were $985 million.
  5. 5.Valuation and volatility risk from investments: $42.8 billion of marketable equity and $51.2 billion of non-marketable securities, with $36.9 billion of lock-up restricted holdings, drive earnings swings.
  6. 6.Higher leverage ($33.5 billion of senior notes), regulatory and antitrust inquiries worldwide, and the certified class in the pending securities class action, with no loss accrued.
